MC Shan (Shawn Moltke) is a rapper and producer from Queensbridge, NY.

He is the cousin from Marley Marl (DJ and Producer) and was member of the famous Juice Crew along with Marley Marl, Mr Magic, Roxanne Shante, Kool G. Rap & DJ Polo, Craig G., Big Daddy Kane, Masta Ace, Biz Markie, MC Percy (Intelligent Hoodlum, Tragedy Khadafi) and don't forget about TJ Swan, the Genius (GZA) and Grand Daddy I.U. They released many dope records on the label Cold Chillin'...

Shan dissed LL Cool J on "Beat Biter" for stealing the Beat from "Marley Marl Scratch" for his "Rock The Bells". Another historic moment was the beef between the Juice Crew and Boogie Down Productions that started with the track "The Bridge"...

Ill-Ko & Illy-I, i guess they are from New Jersey or NYC. In 1999 they released a 12" single with the three tracks "Illy-I", "Sun City" and "Big Shots" on Heavy Hittas Entertainment and it is the first release on this label. It seems there are more MC's than Ill-Ko & Illy-I on the Mic, Skeme and Ill Rob? My favourite track is "Big Shots", got a smooth hypnotic beat! "Sun City" got a nice bassline and the hook reminds me a bit on some Cypress Hill ish. "Illy-I" comes with some singing parts and got some westcoast flava.

Bryant and D. West. First i thought there is Jam (aka Jam D.O.T. / Jam Da Original Trooper, real name James Bryant) on the record, cause there is a J. Bryant at the lyric credits and one MC is sounding a bit like him on both tracks and the fact that are both from Queens and the "Jam - Soul Search'n' / Like This" 12" was recorded at Lil Rascals Studios and mixed by Doc like the "Gotta Have Money" 12" and the clue that there is a Rickochet shout out on the track "Queens" from the Survival Series - 11355 split EP, these details made me think about it, but i asked him and he told me he has nothing to do with it.

Little Egypt (aka L.E. Apostles) is a group from Brooklyn, NY. The members are Visual Poetics (aka Joe Steele, DJ Technique), Forge, Taajwar, Bravestar and Khordz (aka Khordz-255). The group was founded in 1993/1994 by Visual Poetics and in 1995 the group attracts some more attention by a bigger audience performing in legendary spots like The Nuyorican Poets Cafe (NYC), SOBs (NYC) and State of the Union (DC). Visual Poetics is the main producer of the group and also CEO of their independent record label East Park Inc. Khordz-255 is the second producer and also rapper. Little Egypt’s lyrics content has a conscious attitude and range from political to conspiracy theories, but they are also reporting the street life. In 2000 they released their debut single on East Park Inc. with the three tracks “Sunrise”, “Heroes” and “Just For The Record II” available as 12” single and CD single. All three joints are dope! In 2002 they released their first album “Straight Out The Sands” (CD only), a really great album, also includes the tracks from their debut single, except “Heroes” which could be only found on the single. Their second Album, which is actually more an EP “The Crown Heights Affair” followed in 2006. It’s a concept album with guest productions from Chubb Rock on “The Far East” and "Be About It", these along with “Conspiracy Theory” and “The Heist: Casablanca” are the outstanding tracks on this release.

This tape has the 6 cuts "Bounty Season", "Nuff Respect", "Stop Bitch'n", "Touch Bottom", "Pot Hoes" & "The Gutta (Remix)". All songs written by D-Law and A.K. Serious. Produced by Boileroom Productions. Some dope stuff, i like all tracks, but "Nuff Respect" is my shit and i really dig the production on "Pot Hoes"!

The Shark (Michael Pennini) is a italian rapper originally raised in Harlem and later moved to Morris Park Bronx / NY. The Shark is spittin' some mafioso shit to the fullest! The Shark relaesed five(?) 12" singles and a few albums / mixtapes ("An Angel With A Dirty Face" LP & EP in 2001 "Deep Waters", "Stay Out The Water" and in 2009 "Tommy's Son" together with J-Love). He worked with a lot of cats in the biz, like Kool G Rap, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, Papoose, Jo Jo Pellegrino, Sheek Louch, Navy Seal...In 1996 he released his debut single with the track "Italiano" on Italiano Records. Produced by Rated R Wize Guy and executive produced by Adam. One really dope cut! (props to Brickhouse Studios for the info about his first release and to share this track with us!) His second single was released in 1997 on Sharkateer Recordings with the tracks "For The Fams", "Generations Fix" and "Grand Design". This record is pure heat and definitely slept on! All three tracks are really dope with amazing production from Beneficent Schlong and DJ Nutindabed, the beats are dark with nice string samples plus scratches from Total Eclipse (The X-Ecutioners). Executive producer is The Rakateer, Engineer Liz Marcado and Assistant Jamie S.S. Garcia. For me it's all about this '97 release, his later records can't match up with this bomb! Mafioso style, cousin! In 1998 he followed with "It's Over" and "Heavy Hitters" on Bottom Line Records. Produced by DJ Eyal, Executive producer is The Rackateer and Engineer Nasty, recorded at The Cutting Room. Two years later in 2000 he realesed a 12" with the three tunes "Bam'D", "The Money Vender" and "Country Club" on Jawz Records. I only feel "Country Club" feat. Jo Jo Pelligrino. Produced by Michelob, who did some great productions for Cover, Emar, Shamus, E From AK & U.G. (Cella Dwellas) & Ny-Gel Mak,...Jo Jo Pelligrino (J. Edwards) first made some noise with a solid 12" single in 1996 when he was part of the group "Mafioso Chapter" with the tracks "Crime Family", "Money Ambitions" and "Whats Left", later he also worked with Reakwon, Cappadonna, Inspectah Deck, Blaq Poet, R.A. The Rugged Man, Sean P., Hell Razah, Remedy,...In 2004 The Shark released another 12" single with the three cuts "Salute" feat. He was first heard on an EP togehter with DJ Joint (James Gilliard) & DJ NelNyce (Nelson Quinones) titled: DJ Joint & DJ NelNyce introducing: T-Flawless (The Lyrical Attorney) - Limited Edition EP, released on Funky James Records in 1998. This EP has the 4 Tracks "Untouchable Flow", "Introduction", "Latoya '98" (feat. Wenona Wyche) & "Lyrical Attorney". My favourite tracks are "Untouchable Flow" and "Introduction". "Untouchable Flow" is such a fresh joint, i love it and on "Introduction" you can also hear DJ Joint and NelNyce on the Mic. Dahru is a crew from Connecticut, in 1997 they released the single "My Home / Connecticut" on Drop Zone Records, avaiable as 12" single and CD single. Maybe they released a record before this one on the same label, cause this wax has the catalog number DZ02, so there should be another release with the catalog number DZ01. If it's not from Dahru, it could be from another artist, would be interesting to know more about this one..."My Home" is written by Scott Mayo, Pierre Jaboin, Leroy Casey & Joe Lewis, two of them are the artists Twist Da Marksman & J-Nub. "Connecticut"
is written by Scott Mayo & Pierre Jaboin. Both tunes are produced by Scott Mayo (Mayo-Naze Music). Both joints are dope, "My Home" is a bouncy banger and "Connecticut" is a damn smooth jazzy tune. Lac Rippa / Scrooge, i guess this duo is from Brooklyn / Staten Island, New York. In 1995 they released a 12" single with the two tracks "Let's Get It On" & "Concrete Jungle" on Mentally Disturbed East West. I like both joints, both are smooth and raw, on "Concrete Jungle" we get some stories from da concrete jungle NYC on a smooth mellow beat and "Let's Get It On" is a ill tune with short singing parts on the hook. All tracks produced by Russel Pressley for Russ Press Productions. Russel Pressley (aka Russ Press / Russ Prez) is a Wu-Tang affiliated producer and also made beats for Trigga (No Tomorrow), KGB (Heads on & Journey Thru Hell), Killarmy (Last Poet on the album Dirty Weaponry), Deadly Venoms (Pockets Stay Deeply, One More To Go, Counterfeiters & Formulate on the album Antidote), MMO (Kinda Hard / Spit Liquids 12"), Hot Butter (A Jazzy Rhyme 12" and a few tracks on their album A New Chamber).

Redd Bull is a female MC from Philly and she is down with the Ruggedness Fam. She released two records on Kixx Records, the first one is a 12" single from 1994 with the three tracks "Rude Girl", "Bring On Da Bull" & "Ghetto Illusion", the second one is the "Raindrops" Ep from 1996. Let's take a closer look on her debut single, all three tracks are mad dope, but i like "Bring On Da Bull" the most, the beat is just amazing! "Rude Girl" featuring guest rhymes from Ruggedness (from Ruggedness Madddrama) and "Ghetto Illusion" got a bit ragga toasting on it and uses the same sample we also heard on "Tribal Move - Lost In The Dark" from the 10 Deep Compilation. All tracks produced by Super T and Ruggedness, Executive Producers are Tab Edwards & Keith Davis. All tracks written by Redd Bull & Ruggedness, "Ghetto Illusion" is also written by Super T. All additional vocals from Ruggedness & Chink (aka Ruggedness Madddrama), Darkman (Lyrical Terrorists), Chuck-E aka Daddy-C & Super T. Recorded and engineered at Silicon Chip by Christian Barth. Tab Edwards label Kixx Records is still active but the best stuff were released in the early days of the label from '93 to `96. Mic Murderers is a group from Reading, PA and consists of the three members D. Mc Farland, W. Brown & M. Williams. In 1997 they released their first and only 12" single on Mic Murderers Records with the two tracks "Mic Murderers" and "Macroencephalitis". All songs written, produced & arranged by Mic Murderers. Recorded at Hideaway Studios and mixed by Kevin Young "Kurve" and Mic Murderers. I prefer the joint "Mic Murderers", got a nice beat, just a basic average one like thousands, but still really dope and effective, fits good with the lyrics. "Macroencephalitis" is also nice, got a heavy abstract production. They also recorded an album, but it never saw the light of day, let's hope it will surface one day (thanks to soopacee for the additional info).

Warheads is a crew from Brooklyn NY, i am not sure about the members. There are five people involved in this project, we have D. Dargan, S. Murphy (maybe the producer Staf 27 ?), N. McCollin, A. Mardin & K. Bumford. In 1996 they releaesd "I Declare War / Trapped In The Rap Game" on War Drumm Records avaiable as CD Single and 12" Vinyl Single. But this is not really their first record, three of the members (D. Dargan, S. Murphy & N. McCollin) already released in 1993 under the name "Ill Rec Spark" a 12" single titled "Smokin Tha Peacepipe / Guilty In The First Degree", also released on War Drumms Records. On "I Declare War (The Declaration Of War)" we have only one of the MC's rhyming and on "Trapped In The Rap Game" the whole bunch is on the mic. Both tracks are really dope, i would say straight '96! "Trapped In The Rap Game" reminds a bit on some Heltah Skeltah - Nocturnal ish. All songs produced by Staf 27, recorded and mixed by Staf 27 and Super Dave at Infinity Studios.

"Deemo Da Pro" from the Lower East Side, NYC is the main man behind Rhyme Animal. He released an EP on Street Value Records, i don't know when it came out, but i guess something around '97-'99. The EP has 6 really dope Tracks: “Rhyme Animal”, “Papers And Gold”, “Backdraft”, “The Art Of War”, “Real Feelings” & “Only If…”. We get some ruff & rugged thug rap mixed with mostly dark "futuristic" beats, i really like the productions. All beats produced by Rhyme Animal Productions. “Only If…” is my favourite joint, it got some additional rap from Terra Allah and the Saxophone is played by Pablo Calogero. An amazing joint in my opinion! I love the beat, the composition and formation with the synthie and sax is just dope. “Papers And Gold” got a very unique mixture, the beat got rocking guitar riffs paired with some mystic samples, furthermore a chorus sang from Preach and featuring the two MC's J Wrecka & Trauma.

KNOW Respect is a group out of Baltimore, MD. I am not sure about the members, there is DJ Hollow Tip and 2 MC's (Human T. & Hollow?) rhyming, but it seems to me that DJ Hollow Tip is also on the microphone. KNOW Respect released a cassette single in 1994 titled "Dead Society", i never saw it as a Vinyl 12” Single. The Titletrack "Dead Society" comes in a main and remix version, the main version got a dirty and clean mix, the clean mix got a different intro. There is also a bonus beat on it. "Dead Society" is a nice joint about the life in the streets. Written by KNOW Respect, produced by Dj Hollow Tip and recorded at Hard Knox Studios Baltimore, MD. Production arrangement by Stanley Newsome III, executive producer is Lloyd Stanton (Honey Bee Records) and associate producer is D.J. Junnie "P" of E.A.(II Fresh Productions). "The Don Blaq Project", Don Blaq from Trenton New Jersey is the man behind this project. I am not sure about his discography, but i know there are some other joints from him and he is still makin music. Coillition Cartel is a group straight out of Lefrak City aka Iraq (Corona, Queens NYC) and consists of the four members: Castro (aka Kastro / Kas), Mendoza (Mendosa), Midnight Blu & Shottie. Castro and Mendosa met Noreaga who was also living around the block and both had the chance to get a guest appearance on the track "Iraq (See The World)" on the C-N-N (Capone -N- Noreaga) - The War Report LP from 1997. After that Mendosa wanted to build his own group and he teamed up with the others and Coillition Cartel was born. They got signed to the label Divine Mill / Set It Off from Keir Gist (DJ Kay Gee from Naughty By Nature) and released the 12" Single "Hold The Block Down / Elements Of Iraq". Coillition Cartel released a few other joints, there are the two outstanding cuts "CWS (Civil War Saga)" and "Poison Fills da Mind", but i don't know in which format they were released, maybe they were not officially released. The Group is still makin music, also as solo artists. Let's talk about the "Hold The Block Down / Elements Of Iraq" Single: The four man army is spittin' some thug tales from the dark corners of Lefrak City and "Hold The Block Down" is definitely the winner on this wax, this cut comes with some front heavy strings and is highly recommended for all who enjoyed the C-N-N - War Report sound a la "T.O.N.Y.". On the B-Side we find the track "Elements Of Iraq" featuring Noreaga, the beat is provided with some guitar riffs, but this one can't match up with the other tune.

Numbs is a Group out of Salt Lake City, Utah. Numbs has four members, the 3 MC's Mark Dago, Gunnar (Gunnar McKell) & Rooster who is also Producer and the DJ & Producer Shanty (DJ Shanty). In the early years of the band there were also Rick (Rick One) also DJ & Producer.

The 3 MC's Mark Dago, Gunnar & Rooster deliver us fresh rhymes with skillz which are more conscious and alternative. Rick & Shanty did a great job on the beats, they are really dope and range from dark, mystic, atmospheric to mellow & abstract. All tracks produced by Rick except "Statiklingon (Remix)" & "Drop Degrees" produced by Shanty, Basslines played by Gunnar, all cuts by Rick & Shanty. Executive Producer is Shawn T. Murphy. F.O.N. (aka Forces Of Nature) is a group out of Staten Island NY. I am not sure about the members, we have Howard Gutter, Rasheed Gutter, Haze Guard & Splff. They released their debutsingle "Gotta Get Mine" on Fun Records Inc. in 1996. Besides the maintitle "Gotta Get Mine" which comes with a remix, we have the second track "Bring Wreck" on it, which one also has a remix. "Gotta Get Mine" is a smooth number about getting a record deal. i prefer the remix, cause it got that nice jazzy feel on it. "Bring Wreck" is some hardcore ish which comes ruff, rugged & raw and Haze Guard is grimey on the mic. I can't decide which version i like more, both are really nice! All tracks written & produced by Howard Gutter & Rasheed Gutter. Recorded at Laughing Dog Studios Staten Island and mixed by Bill Donnelly. The remixes were produced by Brent Faroh Toussaint, who also produced for the Lost Boys, Hithard & the Nodyaheadtodis Vol. 1 & Vol. 2 compilations. For all cd collectors, this one was also released as cd single with the same tracklist.

Lil Sprout & Big Rob, i guess this duo is from Hempstead Long Island NYC, but there is also a Baltimore MD connection. Lil Sprout (aka Gargamel, real name Kwesi Awai) is the rapper and Big Rob is producing the beats, Lil Sprout names his crew Buffallo Soldiers. They released two Singles, in 1994 they released their first Single "Flowing / I Can Turn It Out" on Phase 2 Records Baltimore, MD. "Flowing" comes in the original version and with a remix, same with "I Can Turn It Out", on the end we have a short outro with some shout outs. The two versions of "Flowing" are slightly different and comes with a female chorus from Kadijah L. Sengova. "I Can Turn It Out" is the winner for me and i like both versions of it. All tracks produced by Big Rob, executive producer is Robert C. Stoddart also mixed by Robert C. Stoddart and recorded at Phase 2 Studio. All scratches by Mark B. In 1996 they followed with their second 12" Single titled "Treason" released on Uprising Records, Hempstead Long Island, NYC. Lil Sprout has a nice voice and serves us here some lyrical gourmet and Big Rob is on the production and he is killing it with these dope beats. The beats are dark, ruff and just ill, sometimes with a jazzy flavour. All four cuts are amazing boom bap! besides the main title "Treason" which comes in a Original Mix and Remix, we also have "Mental Stress" & "Hard Core". All Tracks are produced by Big Rob and mixed by Big Rob & Lil Sprout. Recorded at Phase 2 Studio and mastered by Duncan Stanbury at Master Cutting Room. Lil Sprout gives a shout out to C. Boogie Brown and The Leaders Of The New School.

Lil Joon already released a 12" on the same label back in '94 with a joint called "Life", which one was also produced by Carlo & Kev. After this one he came with these 3 Tunes: "Universal Struggle", "Thru Da Years" & "Make Da Paper Flip" featuring Shorty Black. NYRU - 95 Live / Gotstaripit / Bootleggers 12" is a dope promo single out of Silver Spring, Maryland. Released on Dapper Entertainment in 1995. NYRU is a two man crew with the two MC's: Six and Jett. All tracks are written & produced by NYRU for NYRU 4 Life Productions. Recorded and mixed at D2E Funklab and engineered by Terry "Squirl" Lewis. "95 Live" & "Gotstaripit" are two smooth funky tunes with a bit singing on it and "Bootleggers" featuring the S.U.K.'S (Black Raven, Day Jahvu & Lord Black Coon) comes a bit harder and rougher. I like all three joints, but "Bootleggers" is the bomb! NYRU released another track called "Gat Grabber" which is also worth checking out.

Infinite Allah released this killer promo 12" in '96 i guess. There are 3 Tracks "Open Your 3rd Eye", "Allahu Akbar" & "Angel Of Death". My favourite joint is "Open Your 3rd Eye", but "Angel Of Death" is also a nice one. Some tales from the streets in a conscious way! "Open Your 3rd Eye" uses the Beat from "Onyx - Last Dayz". The Sample from "Allahu Akbar" is famous, the original is "Les McCann - Go On And Cry" from 1974 (thanks to verge). We also heard Samples of this tune on "Cella Dwellas - Good Dwellas", "Dream Warriors - California Dreaming", "Lords of the Underground - No Pain", "X-Tra Pleza - I Can Feel Everything" and a few other joints.

The Phantom aka Shast released a nice record titled "The Boom" on Antidote Records out of NYC. I am not sure about the release year, the record label says 1994 and the back cover says 1995, but sounds more like `94! Besides the original version of "The Boom" are 2 remixes of it and the dope track "F#ck Them All". "The Boom" comes smooth about girlies & bootys and on "F#ck Them All" The Phantom is getting more hardcore. The Tracks are produced by E-Uneek Kebreau and mixed by Cold Rock.
